Both Blooming Prairie and Springfield made it to US Bank Stadium for the state football semifinals in 2018. Each is hoping to take the next step this year, but the reality is only one of them will get to play indoors. Each team built their unbeaten regular season with a pretty even split between rushing and passing and a shutdown defense. BP averaged 145 yards on the ground and 202 yards through the air. They held their opponents to six points or less six times. Springfield averaged 200 yards per game rushing and slightly more than that through the air. The Tigers had four shutouts and held two other teams to seven points.

Blooming Prairie's Kaden Thomas threw for 1,515 yards and 26 touchdowns during the regular season and added 11 more TD passes and about 500 yards in their two playoff wins. Matthew Pryor ran for 851 yards during the regular season with 11 touchdowns. He has 255 yards in the postseason.

Gabe Hagen had 27 catches for seven scores and over 400 yards during the regular season. Karson Vigeland had 17 grabs for 285 yards and eight touchdowns. He missed part of the regular season with a knee injury but has returned to the lineup. Alex Baldwin has 11 catches in the playoffs, three for scores.

Springfield had three running backs shouldering the load during the regular season, each with about 400 yards or more through eight games. Two of them are averaging over 100 yards per game in their two playoff wins. Three receivers had five touchdown receptions during the regular season.

Springfield edged Martin County West 23-21 in the Section 3A title game while Blooming Prairie crushed Goodhue 59-12.

The winner of the Blooming Prairie-Springfield game will face the winner of Underwood against Ada-Borup, who play Saturday afternoon at 3 pm in Moorhead. The other bracket quarterfinals are No. 1 ranked BOLD, who beat BP in last year's semifinals, playing Deer River at 12 pm in Brainerd and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop against Browerville-Eagle Valley at 7 pm at St. Cloud State.
