Donations made to the Steele County Food Shelf by April 7 qualify for matching funds during March Food Share Month. Last year the Food Shelf collected $115,000 dollars which translate into around $20,000 in matching funds. This year the Food Shelf has reached their $100,000 goal but needs $13,000 to match the 2018 donations. 23 cents will buy a meal so even a donation of a dollar will buy better than 4 meals.

The Steele County Food Shelf is on Oakdale near the VFW. Donations are accepted Monday and Wednesday from 9-5:30pm, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9-3:30pm and Saturday mornings from 8-11:30am.

Nancy Ness of the Steele County Food Shelf was a guest on AM 1390's Talk of the Town. She pointed out that volunteer help is always welcome, especially with stocking the shelves. The Food Shelf also takes fresh garden produce. Keep that in mind as you purchase your seeds and plants and make plans for your summer garden.
