Owatonna, MN (KROC-AM News) - Prosecutors in Steele County worked out a plea agreement with an Owatonna man during the fourth day of jury selection for his murder trial.

It was expected that opening statements would be presented early next week in the case of 25-year-old Cyrus Trevino, but that has been canceled and he is now scheduled to be sentenced on November 13th for his involvement in the drug-related murder of a Medford man last year. Trevino today entered a guilty plea to a second-degree murder charge in exchange for the dismissal of a first-degree murder indictment.

He was accused of luring 22-year-old Richard Jurgensen into a car before the young man was driven to a remote spot on a rural Owatonna road where he was shot and killed on June 25, 2016.

A second man charged in the execution-style slaying is scheduled to appear in Steele County Court for a plea hearing tomorrow. 38-year-old Gerald Blevins of Bemidji faces first and second-degree murder charges. The criminal complaint alleges Jurgensen was killed because Trevino and Blevins mistakenly believed he was a police informant.
