Over 900 people are expected to show up at the Polar Plunge this year in Rochester - some will be wearing costumes you DO NOT want to miss.

The Stearns County Polar Plunge will take place Saturday February 15 at Avon Beach at noon. The plunge is to support Special Olympics Minnesota and is presented by the Stearns County Sheriff's Department.

It was quite disappointing to learn that the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Minnesota was not going to return to Owatonna. We have been there every year it was offered, and my daughter went "freezin for a reason" each year

The results are in, and they are amazing.

About 130 people jumped into Lake Kohlmier in Owatonna Saturday to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota. Several were taking the leap for the first time. But for many this an annual tradition. For Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson it was his 136th plunge. Steele County Sheriff Lon Thiele joined him to open the event with his seventh such plunge. Thiele will join Torgerson again for the Polar Plunge in Rochester February 9-10.
