Nothing brings Minnesota's elected representatives together like a good 'ol fashioned hot dish competition, but things got a little spicy this year.

Spicy, that is, by design in the hot dish recipe-- not because our politicians got at each other's throats like they might do while debating a bill. That's because the winner of the 9th Annual Minnesota Congressional Hot Dish Competition was a dish named 'Hot Dish A-Hmong Friends,' and, according to this CBS-Minnesota story, it brought some heat featuring Umami seasoning, Thai chilis and egg roll wraps.

Minnesota's representatives and senators in Washington have been getting together since 2011 when former Senator Al Franken first started the annual casserole hot dish competition. All of 10 members of Minnesota's Congressional Delegation took part again this year, because, as the story noted, nothing brings Minnesotans together like a hot dish. Sen. Tina Smith hosted this year's competition.

Gov. Tim Walz is no longer in Washington, of course, so he couldn't compete this year. Which is good news for the other politicians, because nobody else has the number of wins Walz does, having won the competition in 2013, 2014 and 2016. (His last win three years ago was for his 'Turkey Taco Tot Hotdish.')
