The National Weather has issued a Tornado Watch in effect until midnight tonight for a large portion of southern Minnesota.

A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development in and near the watch area.

The Tornado Watch includes Blue Earth, Brown, Cottonwood, Dodge, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Jackson, Le Sueur, Martin, Mower, Nicollet, Olmsted, Steele, Waseca, and Watonwan counties in southern Minnesota.

In addition to the possibility of development of tornadoes, scattered large hail hp to tennis ball size, and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph are also possible.

Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect for a portion of southeastern Minnesota until 7:00 am Tuesday morning for Dakota, Fillmore, Goodhue, Olmsted, Rice, Wabasha, and Winona counties -- where heavy rain and excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
