The Twin Cities Pride Festival and Parade and the USA Volleyball 2017 Girls Junior National Championships are happening this weekend as well as the Back to the '50s event at the state fairgrounds. And there are going to be some travel headaches for those going to those events from the southern Minnesota area.

The first headache: Metro Transit reports several downtown Minneapolis light rail stations will be closed beginning Thursday, June 22. The Target Field, Warehouse District/Hennepin Avenue, Nicollet Mall and Government Plaza stations will be closed for 11 days for scheduled maintenance. Beginning at 6:45PM Thursday, buses will replace Blue and Green Line trains from U.S. Bank Stadium to Target Field station. Trains will resume by 5AM Monday, July 3. The big headache for those driving is that the construction work on the I-94 Lowry Tunnel kicks into high gear this weekend. The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports eastbound lanes of the Lowry Tunnel are set to close at 10PM Friday, June 23. MnDOT crews believe they can have the eastbound tunnel reconfigured and open by noon Sunday. MnDOT lists the detour as Highway 100 to eastbound Highway 62 to northbound I-35W to eastbound I-94.

On Monday, June 26, the westbound Lowry Tunnel will be closed through early August. The I-35W ramp to westbound I-94 will close very early Saturday morning. Check out the construction project here.

Stay calm, allow plenty of time and just take it easy and that will help get you through all this.
