Waterville Man Killed, Cannon Falls Man Seriously Injured in Crash Near Faribault
A 27 year old Waterville man and 40 year old Cannon Falls man were operating vehicles involved in a head on collision just west of Faribault this morning. The Minnesota State Patrol says William Potter of Waterville was killed and Andrew Stein of Cannon Falls suffered a "life threatening" injury.
Stein was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Potter was pronounced deceased at the scene. The State Patrol report says Stein was wearing a seat belt and Potter was not buckled up.
The crash was reported at 4:45 a.m. and Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn told KDHL that area of Minnesota Highway 60 was open to traffic again around 8:30 a.m.
The stretch of highway between Dalton Avenue and 222nd Street West was closed to traffic in both directions.
The State Patrol description of the accident says Potter was driving east on Highway 60. Stein was travelling westbound and crossed the center line colliding with the Potter vehicle.
The Rice County Sheriff's Office, Faribault Fire Department and North Ambulance were all dispatched to the scene.
