The Fourth of July is right around the corner and that means fireworks! You can’t legally shoot off many fireworks here in Minnesota, but there are several towns and cities that hold Independence Day Celebrations with firework displays. Sparklers, cones and tubes that emit sparks, and novelty items like snakes, and party poppers are pretty much the only fireworks that are legal to buy/use in Minnesota so a lot of people make the trip over to Wisconsin to stock up. Let’s be real, no one over the age of 6 is going to be excited about snakes or party poppers. The oohhs and ahhs come when the sky is full of bright explosions.

Unfortunately, Minnesota residents are prohibited from using those types of fireworks.

What Happens If You Get Caught Sneaking Fireworks into Minnesota?

Minnesota has some pretty strict consequences for those caught smuggling fireworks.

"Most violations are a misdemeanor for which a court can impose a sentence of 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both. Violations involving a large amount of fireworks (35 pounds gross container weight or more) can be punished as a gross misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of one year in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both."

Now, I doubt a dad trying to get some roman candles for his kids is going to end up in jail but people transporting larger amounts might. That fine would stink too.
