This morning the Rice County Sheriff's Office posted to social media that it had already stopped four drivers going 80mph+ on area roads, and the day wasn't even 8 hours old. The message from the Sheriff's Office and Minnesota's Department of Traffic Safety to drivers? Slow down.

The post by the Rice County Sheriff's Office points out that by 8am deputies had stopped numerous drivers for going above the speed limit and at least four were cited for going more than 80 miles per hour on area roads. One driver pulled over was exceeding 100mph when they were stopped!

According to the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety, there have been 148 speed-related deaths in 2021. That’s a 35 percent increase from this time last year and a 115 percent increase from this time in 2019.

Deputies are conducting extra speed enforcement today and so far have cited drivers for:
-103 MPH in a 70 MPH zone
-88 MPH in a 70 MPH zone
-87 MPH in a 70 MPH zone
-85 MPH in a 60 MPH zone

Speeding endangers everyone on the road. Slow down and arrive alive.

Rice County Deputies weren't the only ones cracking down on speeding drivers, just this morning alone on my way into work, Le Sueur County Deputies had pulled over drivers along Highway 21, for what I can only assume were speeding violations.

Anyone traveling that stretch of road day or night knows that it sometimes feels you've pulled onto the autobahn, with the way some drivers commute that stretch.

Do yourself a favor as there is increased enforcement on Minnesota roads this holiday season, slow down, put the phone away, and wear your seatbelt.
