Sign up has begun this week for several youth sports activities. Actual practice begins soon with social distance and other health safety protocol to be instituted. As of Tuesday night, about 150 players had signed up for baseball according to the @OTownBaseball Twitter account. Junior Golf Academy at Owatonna Country Club and Park and Recreation swimming lessons and track and field are also planned.

Grades 2 - 7 for baseball will start June 8 as "approved for teams/pods of 10 players." Ball for grades 8 - 12 will begin June 15. @OTownBaseball tweeted, "over 100 signed up for grades 4-12. Over 40 signed up for 2nd and 3rd. Awesome start! Deadline is this Friday at midnight."

Owatonna Parks and Recreation announces that private swimming lessons will begin June 15 at River Spring Water Park. Registration starts Thursday, June 4 for residents and Friday, June 5 for non-residents. Here is the direct link to the sign up page. Lake Kohlmier Beach will open June 4 for equipment rental and some concessions.

Park and recreation will also offer a track and field program for grades 2 through 8 starting on June 15. It will run Monday through Thursday until June 25 from 10 am to 12 pm each of those days.

The Junior Golf Academy will be held at Owatonna Country Club with a June and July session. There are two programs. The registration material states the Fundamental camp "will focus on making golf fun and learning the important fundamentals of playing the game." Academy 36 "is for the young competitive golfer looking for more individualized instruction."

Each camp is open to age 13 to 17. Camps will be limited to eight students per time session. Golfers must have their own clubs. Students will need to remain six feet apart at all times.
