13 Owatonna Runners Complete Grandma’s Marathon
Grandma's Marathon was back to full strength on Saturday, June 18. After switching to a virtual event in 2020 and running with a limited field in 2021, the event was back to its full capacity in 2022. And Mother Nature welcomed runners back with a glorious day.
Thirteen Owatonna runners completed the 26.2 miles from Two Harbors to Duluth along the North Shore. In several cases, it was a family affair. Overall, nearly 6,000 completed the full marathon.

I hope I didn't miss any of the local and Steele County runners. You can find the full official results here. Congratulations to all the runners, even those that may have entered but did not finish. (Everyone needs a DNF at some point.) There were over 7,000 finishers of the Half Marathon. The weekend featured 4K and 5K races as well.
The course is described as gently rolling without any knee-jarring hills. I've heard there is a feeling of solitude to the run, at least the full marathon, with long stretches without many spectators along the course. That would differ greatly from the Twin Cities Marathon. Crowds offer enthusiastic encouragement nearly every step of the way for that October event.
