For those who didn't have a chance to check out the Balzer's robotic milking at last months Steele County ADA breakfast, here's another chance. The University of Minnesota Extension will host a Dairy Field Day on Wednesday, August 7. This free event begins at 12:30pm at the Richland Dairy near Kenyon.

The Richland Dairy is operated by Alan and Andy Meyer who began milking in 1974 and upgraded to robotic milking in 2010. The Meyers recently had to renovate their barn and robotic milking system after the tornadoes last September. They milk 120 cows.

After the 12:30pm tour, University of Minnesota Extension Dairy Educator Jim Salfer will team with other members of the U of M Dairy Team and lead a discussion on a variety of topics including robotic milking, disaster preparedness and management decision making. The event will conclude at 3:30pm.

The Extension is offering a number of field days across Minnesota this summer covering other topics such as organic dairy production and dairy goats.
