What Happens When You Eat Food Contaminated With Salmonella
When you eat food contaminated with Salmonella you can get salmonellosis, which'll bring you diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever 12 to 72 hours after eating and usually lasts 4 - 7 days.
BUT, and this is a big butt, it can also cause severe diarrhea that will put you in the hospital.
Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact their health care provider.
- FSIS says they're concerned its in your freezer, and you should toss it out or return it to where you bought it.
How Am I Supposed to Cook Chicken?
ALSO...a great time to remind you to look at the packaging before you heat up a chicken product. Is it raw? It'll say so in big letters on the package.
A surprising number of people ignore this and toss it in the microwave which does not do the job an oven will do and could make you very sick.
