I can't say that I'm at all surprised by this. Cannabis, in the last decade has been found to possess many health benefits. I can't imagine what profound cures and treatments might be available by now if only cannabis had been studied seriously the last 60 plus years.

The latest news comes on of our northern neighbor, Canada.  Two Canadian scientists, Olga & Igor Kovalchuck, have been doing research on a special strain of cannabis. The goal, in the strain they created, was to treat cancer and inflammation. However, since the coronavirus started to move around the world, they have concentrated their efforts on cannabis as a possible treatment and/or preventative tool against the virus.

The Canadian scientist's studies were published in an online medical journal, Preprints.

“Similar to other respiratory pathogens, SARS-CoV2 is transmitted through respiratory droplets, with potential for aerosol and contact spread. It uses receptor-mediated entry into the human host via angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE2) that is expressed in lung tissue, as well as oral and nasal mucosa, kidney, testes, and the gastrointestinal tract,” reads the study. “Modulation of ACE2 levels in these gateway tissues may prove a plausible strategy for decreasing disease susceptibility.”

The Canadian duo checked out research from other scientists working with cannabis and were able to determine that cannabis, a special strain in particular, possessed the ability to block COVID-19 from entering the body. KACE2 receptors are like doorways into our bodies for COVID.

Kovalchuck's research suggests that cannabis could be used to bring down the level of ACE2 "gene expression".  In simpler terms, it could temporarily shut the doors to the virus.

Maybe, just maybe if all this turns out to be the real deal, we can speed up legalization and we can all be healthy and happy.  Emphasis on happy.
