What do you do with a 100-year-old building when a new one is built to replace it? That's the question that faces the Existing Owatonna High School Citizen's Task Force. The 25-member panel begins to meet this month to address the next use for the current high school after the new one opens in fall of 2023.

The November newsletter from the Owatonna Public Schools indicates that part of that question was answered on the 2019 bond referendum vote, "the community voted to approve question #2 which allocated funds for the conversion of portions of the building for district use."

"The task force will review and discuss ideas submitted by the community, discuss potential partnerships with other entities, and make a recommendation to the school board as to the proposed scope of the renovation project, including areas to be remodeled and areas to potentially demolish," states the newsletter.

A recommendation to the school board is expected by late January or early February. Keep up on the latest construction updates on the new high school on the district's website.

The newsletter also announces that Superintendent Jeff Elstad will release his second State of the District presentation on their website on Monday, November 8. "You'll learn of some of the challenges and successes of the past year, what this year's focus is for our students, and exciting things to come."
