If you enjoy gardening and already know a lot about plants, why not learn more and then share your knowledge and experience? The University of Minnesota Extension Service in Rice and Steele Counties are looking for Master Gardner volunteers. "The Master Gardner Volunteer Program strives to recruit a diverse group of volunteers who reflect the communities in which they live."

Now is the time to sign up for the Master Gardner online course that begins in January. However the deadline to sign up for the course is October 1, 2021 so you do not have a lot of time. Learners with all levels of plant experience are welcome! The course fee is $295 but there are funds available for those that may need financial assistance. If you would like more information call Lorrie Rugg, Master Gardner Program Coordinator 507-444-7667.

In addition, if you may live in another county I suspect that county would welcome another Master Gardner too! Extension Master Gardeners answer many questions and work on projects in their communities. One good example I can think of is the rain garden, pavers and gazebo at the Rice County Fairgrounds by the main entrance. Plus, being an Extension Master Gardner can also be a social outing for those that may be retires or semiretired!
