Downed Power Lines Involved In Deadly Crash In SW Minnesota
Worthington, MN (KROC AM News) - Power lines that fell onto a section of I-90 in southwest Minnesota during a storm Wednesday played a role in a deadly traffic crash.
The State Patrol says it happened in the eastbound lanes of the interstate around 6:00 pm near Worthington.
A car had stopped to avoid hitting the powerlines when it was hit by a semi-truck.
The driver of the car was identified as 37-year-old Diego Campos, who is from Chili. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger identified as 30-year-old Martha Rodriguez of Mexico City died at the scene. There were two other passengers in the car. One was identified as 42-year-old Bradford Barett of Annapolis, Maryland. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other - 33-year-old Aldo Viscarra-Avilez, also from Chili - suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The truck was driven by 26-year-old Jaskaran Singh of Ottawa, Canada. He was not hurt.
The driver of a third vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries he suffered colliding with the wires. He was identified as 23-year-old Tyler Gilbery of Tea, South Dakota.
