Last week the Department of Agriculture issued a health alert in regards to chicken salad sold at Fareway Foods. On Wednesday the federal government issued a recall of that chicken salad. The Iowa Department of Public Health says it has linked 115 cases of salmonella to the salad.

The 20,360 pounds of chicken salad was made at Triple T Specialty Meats Inc. in Ackley, Iowa. The chicken salad was sold between January 4 and February 9 in a plastic deli container with the Fareway label. None of the salad has been sold since February 9.

Any of the chicken salad you may have with the recalled dates should be thrown out or returned to Fareway.Salmonella can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. In more severe cases hospitalization may be required.

To date two lawsuits have been filed in U.S. District Court in Des Moines.

Fareway Foods has more than 100 stores located in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota.
