Faribault Girls Basketball Begins Playoffs in Austin
The MSHSL Section 1AAA Girls Basketball Tournament opens Wednesday with eight teams hoping to punch their ticket to the State High School Basketball Tournament March 16-19, 2022.
The Faribault Falcons (0-26) are the #8 seed and will travel to top seed Austin (21-5) Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
#2 seed Stewartville (17-8) will have #7 Winona (3-22) in their gym.
#3 is Red Wing (12-13) with #6 Albert Lea (10-16) their opening opponent.
#5 Kasson-Mantorville (14-12) travels about 5 miles to #4 Byron (15-10) .
The winners play at the high seed on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
The Championship will be Friday, March 11, 2022 a 8:00 p.m. at the Rochester Mayo Civic Arena.
MSHSL Section 1AAAA Girls Basketball is also Wednesday at the high seed.
Top seed is Rochester John Marshall (19-7) with #8 Northfield (3-23) going there Wednesday.
#2 Lakeville North (17-9) will see #7 Owatonna (11-15) in their gym. #3 Rochester Mayo (18-8) plays #6 Farmington (7-19).
#4 Lakeville South (11-15) hosts #5 Rochester Century (13-13). All games have a 7:00 p.m. start scheduled.
Winners play at the high seed Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with the Championship scheduled for Friday, March 11, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.
The latest Minnesota Basketball News Girls Top 20 3A rankings listed Austin #7 behind Mankato East with Becker on top.
The Packers finished second in the Big Nine to Mankato East. Austin's five losses were against #2 Class 3A St. Paul Como Park, #2 Class 4A Eden Prairie, #6 Class 3A Mankato East, Rochester Mayo and Owatonna (both Class 4A schools).
Rochester John Marshall is not listed among the Minnesota Basketball News Top 20 in Class 4A. The Rockets defeated #15 Lakeville North and are enjoying a ten game winning streak. They split with Class 3A state ranked Mankato East and Mankato West.
JM lost twice to Austin.
