The Minnesota State Patrol recently increased patrols on Minnesota roads in an effort to crack down on the problem of street racing according to a post to Facebook. The increase in patrols resulted in citations for speeding in excess of 100+ mph and one felony arrest.

The post to the Minnesota State Patrol Facebook page stated that as a result of the increase in patrol it resulted in:

  • Four Citations for reckless/careless driving.
  • 9 Stops for Speed that included citations for 112, 112, 102, and 97 mph.

The Minnesota State Patrol post went on to add that one person was arrested as a result of the crack down. According to the State Patrol "One stop resulting in the arrest of a man with three outstanding felony arrests warrants from Hennepin County. The suspect fled from a trooper who was attempting to stop him for traffic violations related to street racing in Minneapolis. The suspect was later found in a residence and arrested for suspicion of fleeing police in a motor vehicle and first-degree burglary."

 

Street racing is dangerous driving and a growing problem in the Twin Cities.

The Minnesota State Patrol website through June 10th there have been 69 speed-related fatalities compares with:

38 in 2020 through June 10.
25 in 2019 through June 10.
43 in 2018 through June 10.
37 in 2017 through June 10.

The Minnesota State Patrol cited 35,428 motorists for speeding in 2021 with 501 tickets written for speeds of 100 mph or more.
