Hastings, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Hastings man is scheduled to be sentenced next month for causing the deaths of a mother and daughter by failing to properly secure the load on his landscaping truck.

The Dakota County Attorney's Office today reported that 34-year-old Joseph Czeck has entered guilty pleas to criminal vehicular homicide charges for the deaths of 67-year-old Karen and 32-year-old Jena Christianson on July 9th, 2018. The Shoreview women were in a vehicle traveling on a road just west of the Pine Bend Refinery complex in Rosemount when it was hit by a 1,100-pound boulder that had fallen off Czeck's truck. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The criminal complaint indicated the driver of the truck did not stop or return to the scene. Investigators were able to trace the huge landscaping rock to a company owned by Czeck and arrested him several days later after it determined he was driving the landscaping truck when the deadly incident occurred.
