The Steele County Blades junior hockey team invites you to mix in some hockey with your turkey leftovers and Black Friday shopping this weekend. The Blades play Saturday and Sunday.

The Blades (10-4-2) host Forest Lake (9-9-4) Saturday, November 26, at 7:30PM and Sunday, November 27, at 3PM at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna. Steele County just swept the Lakers last weekend.

Steele County won 7-3 last Saturday behind two goals and an assist from Kyle Wadden. The teams traded goals through a 3-3 tie before the Blades pulled away. In the Sunday rematch, the Lakers forced overtime before Soren Colstrup scored the winner. Clayton Huss helped set up the play but no assist was given on the goal. Huss told KRFO's Roy Koenig that goaltender Nick Mizen should have gotten an assist on the play. Huss scored a goal in each game last weekend in his first weekend back with the team. Huss has played in each of the previous two seasons with Steele County. He was attending college this fall but missed the thrill of competition. The Des Moines, Iowa, native is in his final year of junior hockey.

Defenseman Chase Wedding of Powell, Ohio, is in his first season with the Blades. He has played hockey from Ohio to Boston to Arizona and says the team bond in Owatonna is as good as he has experienced. Wedding and his teammates rang the bells for the Salvation Army this week and participated in the Jump Rope for Heart event at Lincoln Elementary School. Watch for Blades players at local events and reach out to assistant coach Bobby Solari if you have suggestions on community events they should attend.
