16 Minnesota Fruits and Veggies Ready to be Picked in August

We're getting to that time of year where fresh fruits and veggies are in abundance around Minnesota. If you have a garden in your backyard or if you're looking for the right time to go to your local farm to pick fresh produce, I have some of the fruits and veggies that are ready to go in August.

My husband and I have a little garden in our backyard. We tried these new things called cucamelons and they've been going absolutely crazy. We have too many! I feel like there's always that one plant that goes nuts, though.

I found a cheat sheet about when different produce will be ready to be picked in Minnesota on a site called PickYourOwn.org. I used that to create a list for you of the 16 foods that are ready to be picked in August.

Apples

Yes, really, some apples are ready to be picked starting in August. The varieties that will be ready are Mantet and Oriole (those are ready early to mid-August), Beacon and State Fair (ready in mid-August), and Zestar and Paulared are ready in late August.

Carrots (August through mid-November)

Garlic (August through November)

Grapes (mid-August through September)

One place that I found where you can pick your own grapes is called Firefly Berries in Rochester.

Melons (August and September)

Potatoes (August through mid-November)

There are also plenty of those fruits and veggies that are still able to be picked in August but were ready earlier in the season too.

Beans (July through September)

Blueberries (July through mid-August)

Blueberries won't be around to be picked much longer! There are some spots around southeast Minnesota where you can pick your own, too.

Squash (July through mid-November)
