Minnesota Man Has been Making Giant Candy Canes for his Neighborhood for 20 Years
I love seeing all of the houses all decked out for the holidays! It's so fun seeing how creative people are and seeing the lights under the snow is super pretty. But I really want to see some of these giant candy canes around Rochester next year, these are awesome! They're made by a Minnesota man and he's been doing it for 20 years.
His name is Marlyn and he lives in Hutchinson. His neighborhood has been dubbed Candy Cane Lane during the holidays because he makes these huge, light-up candy canes for his neighbors every year. He has some 5.5-footers, 8-footers, and even 11-footers!
Marlyn started making these candy canes as a way to meet his neighbors and also to do something nice for them, according to WCCO. But now tons of people not even from his neighborhood or even his state are getting these giant candy canes.
Giant Candy Canes in Minnesota
There are giant candy canes made by Marlyn in towns around Minnesota like Glencoe, Silver Lake, and Litchfield. WCCO says that they can be found in 18 different states now too! Marlyn and his wife, Laurie, don't make any money off of these, they just ask for money to cover the cost of the materials.
Unfortunately, though, Marlyn has Parkinson's so this year it has become harder to make the candy canes. But he and his wife will still work on the candy canes, just slower, and get them out to those who want them. WCCO says that Marlyn plans to keep making the candy canes for as long as he can.
