Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - ,

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says 23-year-old Dylan Lattery was shot to death in what was initially reported as an act of self-defense by a homeowner. The homeowner, who was arraigned today on second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter charges, initially told police the deadly shooting occurred when he confronted an intruder in his house.

Investigators soon learned 23-year-old Travis Leonard had previously sold marijuana to Lattery, who was found fatally wounded lying face down inside the house wearing a hoodie and a mask while holding a hatchet. Police also found a suitcase containing a large quantity of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags and a safe containing about $13,000 in Leonard's upstairs bedroom.

The criminal complaint says Leonard has admitted shooting Latterty during a struggle and placing the hatchet back in his hand afterward. An autopsy determined Latterty had been shot in the back and in the back of his head.

Conditional base for Leonard has been set at $500,000.
