The biggest reason to support the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day in Faribault is to help families who have suffered through the loss of a child. Infants Remembered in Silence is proceeding with their 12th annual event, while instituting COVID-related changes to keep the event safe for everyone.

Whether you participate virtually or in-person, whether you run, walk or push a stroller, whether you have some young kids and want to see them in the Tot Trot or the Gobble Wobble, the opportunity is there for you to make a difference.

I have seen people I know at the Turkey Trot who I hadn't realized had lost a child or grandchild too early. Even if your biggest reason to run/walk is to justify eating a big holiday dinner, come on out. Find out how to register at irisremembers.com.

On their Facebook page, Iris Remembers says if you register by November 12 you'll receive a "free" event t-shirt. Activities include a 5K and 10K run, a 5K walk, and the aforementioned Tot Trot and Gobble Wobble.

In an email sent to already registered participants, founder and executive director Diana Kelly says, "The 2020 Trot Committee has made some changes to what you have experienced at past events." Among the biggest is a rolling start, "Start your run or walk at any time between 7 - 8:30 am."

Kelly also encourages "you to use the curbside check-in at the Faribault Middle School on Wednesday, November 25 from 4 to 6:30 pm. Please do not leave your car, we will come to you."

There will also be a registration time Thanksgiving morning at the middle school from 7 - 8 am. Parking lots at the middle school and soccer complex will be closed to vehicles to allow for physical distancing of those there to run or walk. The middle school gyms will not be available, "everything will be outside, dress accordingly."

Kelly adds, "We have made many positive changes to our onsite event but we do understand if you would feel more comfortable participating in the Turkey Trot virtually. We have had a virtual component to the Turkey Trot for many years, it allows you to support Infants Remembered in Silence from anywhere in the world, at any time on November 26."
