Visit Over 100-Year-Old Abandoned Train Tunnel in Minnesota
We have so many parks and hiking trails around Minnesota, some with cool features to check out like waterfalls or tunnels. There's one hiking trail up in Duluth where you can explore an abandoned tunnel that's over 100 years old.
The trail is called Ely's Peak Trail and the total distance of the trails is only about a mile, according to Only in Your State. So you definitely don't have to be a pro hiker to go on these trails. One trail will take you around Ely's Peak and the other trail will take you up to the top of the peak. From the top, you'll see tons of forest and also catch a glimpse of the St. Croix River.
Along Ely's Peak is also where you'll find the abandoned tunnel which actually used to serve as a train tunnel. Only in Your State says that the tunnel "dates back to 1910, when the Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific Railway blasted a tunnel through the hill." Then in 1996 trains stopped utilizing the tunnel so now we're able to go explore safely.

I would be so curious to check this tunnel out but also it looks so scary. It looks like it's really dark in there and goes on for quite a while. You'd definitely want to bring a flashlight with you if you wanted to explore the whole tunnel yourself.
