The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from 6:00 pm Thursday through midnight Friday night for a portion of southern Minnesota.

Included in the Winter Storm Watch are Dodge, Faribault, Freeborn, Goodhue, Martin, Olmsted, Steele, Wabasha, and Waseca Counties (+more).

Heavy snow will be possible, with total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

The track of the system is still fairly uncertain, thus any shifts to the west/east will have an impact on expected snow totals.

A surge of arctic air will move across the region this weekend and last into next week. Temperatures will be below zero. The coldest stretch will be Saturday night into Monday morning.
