7 Shining Moments from Owatonna Sports Year
With the 2017-18 school year and sports year slipping into the rear-view mirror, let's take a couple of minutes to highlight a few of the Owatonna High School sports accomplishments.
Each school year has its own identity and has a strong focus on the seniors. This past Owatonna sports year featured teams with senior-heavy rosters. The large class that was honored as O-Club members further drives home this point. Several members of the senior class will go on to play Division I or II athletics, while many others will compete at the Division III level.
OHS captured conference titles in wrestling, gymnastics, baseball and boys' and girls' lacrosse in 2017-18.
I consider it a privilege to cover the teams and players and congratulate them all. Whether they achieved their goals or not, they are better for having participated.
OHS Adds Dance Team
Owatonna's newest sport came on-board in 2017-18 with the addition of dance team.
Springing to 3 Big Nine Titles
OHS baseball, boys' and girls' lacrosse teams were all declared Big Nine champs on the same day. Technically, two of the titles had been wrapped earlier in the snow-altered season, but it still made for an historic Friday.
Schultz Reaches Scoring Mark
Senior Sydney Schultz became the top-scoring overall basketball player in OHS history this winter.
Huskies' Gymnasts Capture Third
Owatonna took home third place honors at the state gymnastics meet.
Two Wrestlers Win State Titles
Peyton Robb won his third state title, the first OHS wrestler to do so. Cade King won his first.
Owatonna Wins State Football Title
With a dominant performance in the Prep Bowl championship game, Owatonna won their second title in five years.
