If you are interested in anything celestial, then get excited because by the end of this week there will be a meteor shower occurring, and you are able to see it if you are in central Minnesota!

The Perseids is the name of the annual meteor shower that occurs at this time, and is usually the best one because it has “a peak of 50 to 100 meteors per hour and [is] known for occasional fireballs — larger and longer-lasting "explosions of light and color" that come from larger comet fragments,” says NASA.

However, while this may be one of the best meteor showers in general, it may not be this year due to a full moon being present in the sky.

An article from Kare 11 states that the Perseids will be active between the late night of Friday, August 12th and early morning Saturday, August 13th, but because of the full moon beginning Thursday, the light from the moon may dim and “outshine” the shower that will occur.

Kare 11 provides that “the show's gonna be a bit muted, but still, there's enough bright meteors that you can still see enough activity by just facing away from the moon," said American Meteor Society editor Robert Lunsford.

While this may be true, I am still hopeful that it could be something truly amazing to see. Kare 11 also states that the best time to watch the shower will be “the early morning hours because the constellation Perseus -- the place in the sky the meteors will appear to originate from -- will be high in the night sky instead of close to the horizon.” If all else fails well at least there will be a big, beautiful, full moon for you to admire.
