Blossoms and Panthers Face Road Football Rematches
The semifinal round of the section football playoffs unfold Saturday. Owatonna hosts Austin at 7PM on KRFO AM 1390. Triton entertains Lewiston-Altura at 7PM on KDHL AM 920. Blooming Prairie travels to Rushford-Peterson at 7PM on Kat Kountry 105 FM. NRHEG plays Maple River in Mapleton at 7PM. All four are rematches of regular season games.
The Huskies rolled by the Packers in Austin 70-36 in week three. Jason Williamson scored seven touchdown to tie a school record that night. He rushed for 210 yards and five scores, plus caught a pass for a touchdown and returned a kickoff for another. That game was on the artificial turf at Austin. Saturday the teams will play at OHS. The last game there was October 6 after heavy rain. Segments of sod were dislodged during the game. Coach Jeff Williams says great care has been taken with the field since to get it into playable condition for Saturday night. Rochester Century at Northfield is the other Section 1-5A semifinal.
Triton beat Lewiston-Altura 42-14 on October 13, but Cobras' coach Don Henderson says the game was tied at 14-14 in the third quarter before Triton pulled away. Chatfield at Caledonia is the other semifinal in Section 1AA.
Blooming Prairie lost at Rushford 39-35 in week eight, playing from behind all night. The Trojans had a punishing ground attack and BP coach Chad Gimbel says Saturday's Section 1A semifinal will come down to defense. Fillmore Central plays at Goodhue in the other semifinal.
NRHEG gets another shot at defending Section 2AA champ Maple River in a series that has featured a number of photo finishes says Panther coach Dan Stork, most of those going to the Eagles. Maple River beat the Panthers 25-6 on October 6. Blue Earth Area at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown is the other semifinal.
