A number of area Historical Societies will be the recipients of funds after the latest round of historical and cultural heritage grants was announced by the Minnesota historical society. In all grants totaling over $3 million dollars will be awarded to entities in 27 counties.

In Southern Minnesota the Dodge County Historical Society will receive almost $104,000 to hire qualified professionals to repoint masonry and replace the roof on the Wasioja Civil War Recruiting Station which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The Mower County Historical Society will be getting around $47,000 for Collections Building Renovation and Artifact Storage Shelving. This will provide better storage conditions and allow for greater public access to objects in the collection.

The Steele County Historical Society is due just under $60,000 for Photograph Collection Catalogue and Rehousing which will provide better organization of a photograph collection and allow for greater public access to this resource.

These grants which are awarded once each fiscal year are made possible by the Arts and Cultural heritage Fund of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
