Holiday Light Recycling At OPU
Jared Hendricks of Owatonna Public Utilities was a guest on AM 1390's Talk of the Town.
Jared covered a number of energy related topics. He advises homeowners to get a home energy audit to find out where the cold air is leaking into one's home. They also have a Watts Up meter you can pick up at OPU. You attach this between an electrical appliance and your outlet. It'll tell you how much energy it uses.
Hendricks suggested that you set the fan on your furnace to auto instead of on. You should see a difference in your utility bill.
OPU will also take your compact fluorescent lights for recycling as it is not legal to throw in the garbage since they contain a small amount of mercury.
Owatonna Public Utilities is currently accepting old holiday lights for recycling. Hendricks gives details.
