Owatonna's boys and girls soccer teams scored shutout victories over Faribault on Thursday as each team prepared for a big section showdown this weekend. The OHS girls won 8-0 on senior night at Lincoln, while the Huskies boys won 2-nil at Faribault.

At the girls match, senior Karington Stanford notched her first career goal. Junior Grace Wolfe put away two to give her nine for the season. Freshman Ezra Oien scored twice, raising her season total to eight. Senior Kaia Elstad scored her first of the season. Senior Asia Buryska and freshman Abby Vetsch each scored. It was their fifth straight win.

Other seniors for the Huskies include Samantha Fredin, Emilee Zirngible, Josie Sullivan, Erin Holzerland, Ela Breur, Tatum Walkingstick, and Malaika Young. Owatonna hosts Farmington at 11 am Saturday with coverage provided by OwatonnaLive.com. OHS faces a Big Nine road test Monday, September 30 at Northfield with the play-by-play on AM 1390 KRFO and the KRFO app.

The Owatonna boys got goals from Benny Bangs with an assist from Leo Gantert and Nolan Burmeister with the assist to Lane Versteeg. OHS is 3-1-1 in their last five matches. They travel to Lakeville South for a 1 pm kickoff Saturday.

In volleyball Thursday, Owatonna defeated Red Wing 25-19, 26-24, 22-25, 25-18, Northfield stayed unbeaten in Big Nine action by sweeping Mankato East 25,-10, 25-13, 25-18, WEM swept Medford in a top-ten match-up, Hayfield downed Blooming Prairie in four sets, and NRHEG took three straight from United South Central.
