The final score showed Owatonna in sixth place at the state gymnastics meet on Friday, but coach Tom Smith called it "one glorious trip" while talking to KRFO radio.

The Huskies finished with 146.125 according the final standings from the Minnesota State High School League. Only 1.8 points separated sixth from second. It was Owatonna's first appearance as a team at the state meet. Smith said he was "really pleased. The girls competed well." Owatonna began on the floor and scored 36.575. They excelled on vault with a 37.750, the fourth-best score in that event. The Huskies scored 35.825 on the uneven bars and closed the meet with 36.175 on the beam, also the fourth-best on the day.

Senior Steph Kretlow had the "meet of her life," according to Smith. Kretlow had a 37.725 all around with 9.725 on vault, 9.325 on the bars and beam and 9.35 on the floor exercise. Owatonna's other competitors were Becca Olson, Ali An, Lindsay Bangs, Syd Kretlow and Grace Pick. The alternates were Taitelynne Jensen, Emily An and Erica Svenby.

St. Cloud Tech won the AA meet with 149.125. Defending champ Roseville Area settled for second with 147.925. East Ridge also climbed the medal stand with their 147.375. Detroit Lakes captured the Class A title with 150.225, a fraction off the state record. Austin finished fourth and Mankato West sixth.

The individual portion of the meet is Saturday, also at the Sport Pavilion at the University of Minnesota. Stehp Kretlow competes in the vault and floor. Bangs and Olson perform on the beam.
