The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says you shouldn't be surprised if your kid catches a cold after returning to school. The warning comes after the CDC studied data from around the time Hong Kong opened its schools. They found cases of the common cold skyrocketed when schools re-opened there back in October - despite the use of masks.

So how could people be catching a cold when we're social distancing, wearing masks, and washing our hands? One thing the researchers pointed out is the cold virus is actually more resistant to some of the common disinfectants used to kill the coronavirus. The research also suggests that the spikes in cold cases they've observed could also be due to kids spending more time at home away from others and away from germs.
