St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of Minnesotans who have started the COVID-19 vaccine regimen is now likely over 600,000.

The latest total reported by the State Health Department is from Wednesday and shows 599,218 Minnesotans had received at least one dose of the vaccine. Over 177,000 people had been given both shots.

The count in Olmsted County shows over 35,000 people have now received at least one dose of the vaccine, which represents 22.8 of the population. Almost 18,000 Olmsted County residents have had both doses needed for maximum protection against COVID-19. The local vaccination totals are expected to steadily rise over the next few days as about 1500 doses are administered at the new community vaccination site at the Mayo Civic Center. Only those who have received an official invitation will be allowed into the facility.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported another 24 coronavirus related deaths including a person in their late 30s who lived in Anoka County. Just over 900 new COVID-19 cases were reported statewide today, including 34 new infections in Olmsted County. The daily testing total reported today was close to 39,000 and the daily testing positivity rate was down to 2.3 percent.
