The List Of Candidates For Hagedorn Seat Grows Longer
St Paul (KROC AM News) - The special election to fill the vacant 1st Congressional District seat may end up setting a record for the number of candidate filings.
Three more filings were recorded Thursday at the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office.
That has raised the number of candidates for the seat that includes southeast Minnesota to thirteen.
The newest candidates are Jeff Ettinger and Rick DeVoe, both Democrats. The third filing was submitted by Republican Matt Benda. He became the 7th Republican to file.
The seat became vacant following the recent death of Republican Congressman Jim Hagedorn.
A primary will be held on May 24th because of the multiple candidates. The special election for the seat is scheduled for Aug. 9th.
Filings will be accepted through next Tuesday.
