This Is The Deadliest Stretch Of Road In Iowa
Driving safely should always be the top priority.
Something that many of us don't remember all the time is that, as we're getting on the road to go to work, or to drop the kids off at school; there is a certain level of risk to driving.
Globally, approximately 3,700 die in motor vehicle crashes every single day, according to the Center for Disease Control. More than half of those who die in these incidents are either pedestrians or bikers. Also, every single year there are about 1.35 million deaths from roadway incidents.
It is also apparently the eighth leading cause of death all across the world.
Now, bringing this back to the Hawkeye State...
On average there are about 338.4 fatalities on Iowa roads every single year, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation. The past five years have remained relatively consistent. There was a slight decrease in fatalities in 2022 compared to previous years.
Practicing safe and sober driving is the ideal way to combat this. Another way to guarantee some sort of safety is to be extra cautious when traversing roads that have a notoriously dangerous reputation.
A website called Geotab, compiled the Fatal Crash Rate in each state in the country. It compiled information from crash information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In it, these officials were able to determine the most dangerous roadways in every single state, including Iowa.
According to the data, the deadliest highway in Iowa is I-80. This roadway sees approximately 19 deaths every year and runs through Des Moines and Iowa City. Obviously the most traveled roadway, through some of the most populated areas of the state, would also be one of the most dangerous ones.
I-80 is also considered the most dangerous in Nebraska, Wyoming, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.
