I'm sorry, but no.

Once again, the website Thrillist has dissed the Midwest. According to their most recent list of the Most Beautiful States in America, Iowa is the number one LEAST beautiful state in the country. Out of all 50 states, we ranked number 50! The article reads:

"Iowa gets a tip of the Wisconsin drift lands on the east side, where there are some pretty cliffs. And it does offer some breathtaking sunsets when the lights do down—there's romance in being able to see that far—but that's only because the state is flat as hell and, well, kinda boring."

If you're wondering what the rest of the "ugly" states are, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, and Oklahoma round out the bottom five. California, Hawaii, Alaska, Utah, and Colorado were listed as the most beautiful. The only Midwest state to make the top ten is my home state of Michigan, which came in at number eight. At least they got that one right! Wisconsin was ranked 23rd and Minnesota was ranked 24th.

Now, I'm not going to pretend that Iowa has vast mountain ranges and stunning coastlines, but I don't think we deserve to be dead last. I mean, come on... I've driven through Ohio! Some of my favorite places to enjoy Iowa scenery include Palisades-Kepler State Park in Mount Vernon and the Maquoketa Caves. I also hear that Dubuque is pretty beautiful! At least Thrillist mentioned our amazing sunsets...

Do you think Iowa deserves to be in last place? Let us know in the comments!
